Now down to 14,000 over Smith. Come ON, Oregon. Let's kick Gordon to the curb.

KATU 2 and KGW 8. KATU has a bottom tape. Merkley's lead is down to 8,000 votes, but Tim Hibbitts on Fox 12 has called it for Merkley.

6. Measure 59 went down big time |
|
In spite of the constant drone on TV that people just hate, hate, hate taxes, Measure 59 went down. That's the measure that would have made federal taxes paid fully deductible on the Oregon state tax return, currently capped at $3,500 or so. Instead, people voted to voluntarily keep the cap and decided that folks who made enough money to pay more than the cap could afford to plunk a few extra dollars into the state coffers.
Just saw a story on KATU with campaign workers hauling away Mike Erickson signs. Hee!

7. And at the end, it's . . . |
|
MERKLEY!
Fox, NBC, and the Oregonian have all called it. Merkley has once again taken the lead, and the bulk of uncounted ballots are in Multnomah and Lane Counties, where Merkley has a commanding edge.
Enjoy your post-political career, pond-killer.
