I found the most incredible house |
|
outside Grants Pass. I read some stuff on city stats and it scared hell out of me. Never voted Democratic and another meth capital.
Does anyone know anything about the area? The property is soooo beautiful and it's in our price range.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's where I met the one and only Bircher I ever knew. I think the WorldNetDaily guy is from there. But it's also where Tony McPeak lives, iirc. It's a good opportunity to flip a red area! And I think red Oregon is probably similar to blue areas in the east, from what I've seen in the primaries. I should say blue Appalachia and rural PA and the blue south, for clarification.

He took a very active role in Kerry's campaign, and then came out very early for Obama. He was with Obama in Portland in Sept 07. Where do you live now? Are you moving here from out of state, or where exactly? And I can barely remember where my family lives, so if you feel like I should remember where you live, I'm sorry. I just can't do it anymore.

4. I plan on retiring to the coast |
|
just over the Cascade Range from there. Grants Pass itself holds bad memories from a (Thanksgiving!) car crash, but I was enthralled by the river valleys thereabouts. The area is very red (saw a lot of encouraging signs in the coastal communities, though) and sadly saddled with meth corruption (right on the main north-south corridor, jobs have dried up). Oregonians hope and plan to take a big part in the developing alternative energy economy, which could really turn around some seriously depressed regions that have suffered through the end of Big Logging and fishing restrictions. Tidal power research is ongoing and promises to be another infinitely renewable power source which fits well with Oregon's reverence for the natural environment, and could mean a great many jobs.
Like the rest of Oregon, also, SW Oregon thrives on its arts, and the local wilderness is breathtaking. You would be within a day's drive of some of the most spectacular natural scenes on the continent.

6. we found something west of the city |
|
on the Rogue with an amazing view. We would have a business there also (in town.) Sounds like we could rent a building reasonably and hire someone unless the town has been over run and it has become a failed city.

8. What's the name of the town? |
|
I grew up in Southern Oregon and spent a ton of time on the river. I could tell you most about a lot of the locales. Personally, I would shy away from the Southern Oregon region (its not what it used to be), but there are still some nice spots.

7. If you plan on retiring, head a little north... |
|
Just a little advice...Heceta Head and up are amazing and nothing south compares to it, socially, economically, artistically, and aesthetically. Yachats, Waldport (which just got a major face-lift), and Depot Bay are all very beautiful. The south coast just cannot compare, and is saddled with economic problems, so I challenge you to take that drive above Florence and see. I actually have a little beach home in Waldport for sale, so I know a lot about the area.
