My cousin died and left two cats. I need help. |
|
He lived in Salem. His parents are dead, he is not married and he has no kids. I am his only relative living in Oregon and will be assigned as the administrator of his estate. He had two wonderful kitties. They are mature females, 6 & 8 years old and just the sweetest cats. I don't know where to start. I brought them home with me (a three hour drive which freaked them out) but I run an import business and I will be leaving for SE Asia in 3 weeks. I am then home for 3 weeks and then have several textile shows at museums on the west coast. I am gone almost 6 months out of the year and when my old kitty died at 14 I did not get another since I don't think it's fair to them to be left alone all the time.
What do I do? I don't want to advertise and take a chance they will be adopted by someone who actually will sell them for research or some such. Anyone have good advice on how I go about finding them a good home? Anyone know anyone who would love to adorable kitties?
Thanks.

2. OregonBlue, you have my sympathy and understanding. |
|
I recently was made administrator of my late brother's estate (he lived in Salem) and know this can be a daunting task, depending on a lot of things. I wish you all the best! How good of you to take on the responsibility for his kitties, too. I am hoping the offer you received in the one response to your message works out and the kitties might find a good home on the South Coast. I agree it is unfair to leave them alone especially since they've just undergone a loss of their own. I hesitate to mention the Humane Society, but if I recall correctly, they have folks in the area who provide foster care for displaced animals. Might be a possibility until a good home can be found.
Just wanted to say I wish you well. Blessings!

3. Thanks for your support. I don't know about the offer of a permanent home but if that doesn't work |
|
out I'll try the humane society. I wish I could keep them but since I am gone for months on end, it just won't work for me. We had to have our cat of 14 years put to sleep and it just about killed me but he was so sick and I wasn't able to give him the care he needed.
It was so hard in the beginning since there was no will but we've gotten most of the paperwork stuff done now so it's just going to be a long, sad road until everything has been taken care of.
Sigh.....

4. Just read your message and want you to know my thoughts are with you. |

It's been a year since I started dealing with my brother's estate--he too had no valid will--and yes, it's been a long sad road. Not to mention complicated and frustrating, but I made it through, and while it's not over yet, I can see that light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. Best wishes, and I hope all has worked well regarding his cats.
Bless you for your care and compassion.

5. Great news, the local catlink found me the most wonderful woman in the world to take the cats. |
|
She lives in The Dalles and her old cat died. She took BOTH of them and I delivered them this afternoon. It's about the nicest pet environment I have ever been in. I can't believe how hard our rescue groups worked here to make sure they were saved. What's even more amazing is that they found the worlds best pet owner to take them. I am relieved and joyful tonight. Thank you all for your concern!!

What a relief! Have been hoping for a good outcome, and kudos to the lady in beautiful The Dalles for being there for you and your cousin's pets.
Blessings to all.
