How are people voting on measure 76?... |
|
From what it looks like it sounds like a yes and it has been endorsed by many Democratic and progressive organizations. I would like to see a basic "reserved" amount and I think most Dems would like a certain percentage to make sure we provide funding for environmental purposes. However at a local Democrats meeting in Washington County, a person stood up and made a good case for perhaps this percentage being a bit high compared to what we've traditionally spent on expenses like this (or need to spend on these items), and that it in effect ties those distributing the money's hands so that they will have less money to put in to things like education and other areas that can help create more jobs which is a big need now in this economy. If this measure doesn't get passed though, then perhaps the opposite might happen where in order to take care of the huge expenses we have now for helping economic conditions, the environment gets underfunded, and we build up problems there too.
So I'm a little torn on how I should vote on this, and I think all of us should be, and hopefully if enough of us can put some facts out here, maybe we can feel a bit more comfortable on how we vote.
