Your ballot can be stolen after you put it in your mailbox- or (as happened to me once)it can be stolen before you even receive it! If this happens, you need to contact your county elections office pronto. They're pretty good about getting another one out to you, at least in Washington county, but don't wait 'til the last minute. If you haven't received your ballot by, say Wednesday, assume there's a problem.
Personally, I drop mine in a post office slot, although I gues a regular old fashioned curbside mailbox would do as well.
