http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07130/785057-100.stmA state senator was held for trial on all charges today in connection with alleged false statements made after a neighbor killed himself with the senator's gun.
The decision by District Judge James Albert of Greensburg drew strong objections from Sen. Robert Regola's attorneys, who maintained there is insufficient evidence to take the case to trial.
The two-hour hearing boiled down some of the testimony from a lengthy inquest held in February into the death of Louis Farrell, 14, who was found dead in July. The shooting has been ruled a suicide.
Two state troopers testified that Sen. Regola changed his story about where he kept the 9mm pistol. They said he told them the day the body was found that he had kept the gun in his room for the previous three months but that it was kept in his son's room before that.
