In a year, Republicans' edge has been cut by more than 5,000 voters.
County Democratic Party Chairman John Cordisco said he was pleased with the numbers, which he said continue a trend of Democratic gains that could help the party win a majority on the Board of Commissioners.
''Those folks who have registered at this point in time are highly likely to come out and vote those votes become very, very valuable, as well as the independents,'' Cordisco said.
