"Foes picked for 124th Legislative District election to replace Argall

The battle lines are drawn for a special election to choose a successor to former state Rep. David G. Argall in the 124th Legislative District. Democrats in Berks and Schuylkill counties have chosen William J. Mackey Jr. as their candidate for the May 19 special election - a seat he has tried for twice and lost.

Meanwhile, the Republicans on Thursday night chose Jerry Knowles, a former legislative aide to Argall, as their candidate. Mackey, 65, a retired pipe fitter from West Penn Township, Schuylkill County, said he will be on the streets campaigning ...
