Allegheny County has a suspected case of swine flu yet to be confirmed by laboratory tests.
The woman, a county resident, had flu-like symptoms of fever and aches after returning from a trip to Mexico.
"This is our first suspected case that does need further confirmation before we even count it as one," said David Zazac, spokesman for the Allegheny County Health Department. "But we have one that fits the profile, having a flu-like illness and a recent travel history to Mexico.
"We are just touching bases and doing our job to make sure this individual's case receives the complete investigation that the situation warrants," he said. "It's a possible case. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet."
Mr. Zazac said it could take a week to 10 days for the state Department of Health to complete laboratory test on a swab taken from the woman. If the state's results are inconclusive, the sample would be sent to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta to test the sample.
