...PoliticsPA writes today that the Pennsylvania lawmaker met with Republican leaders in Washington recently "to discuss running for U.S. Senate."
Maybe Orie has looked at the polls and decided she could make a strong run against Pat Toomey, the former congressman who announced his bid to unseat Arlen Specter, only to have Specter bolt the GOP for the Democratic Party.
Toomey was in Harrisburg Wednesday as part of his ongoing statewide tour. Toomey said he has raised $1 million and has coalesced party support. However, while Toomey is the current frontrunner, there's ample room for more candidates in the 2010 Senate GOP primary.
Orie, from western Pennsylvania, shares some of Toomey's conservative credentials, which is what has led GOP leaders to wonder whether Toomey could win in Pennsylvania. But maybe Orie would get a bounce for being a fresh face on the national scene. Pennsylvania has never elected a female governor or U.S. senator.
