Announces Renamed Post Office in Honor of the Late Capt. Luther Smith, Local Tuskegee Airman
MEDIA, PA - At the annual Martin Luther King Scholarship Gala Saturday evening, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Congressman Joe Sestak was honored for his efforts to enhance Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including his outstanding support for Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Joe Sestak, who has a close working relationship with the school's president Dr. Michelle Howard-Vital, graciously accepted the Martin Luther King Spirit Award.

The event was hosted by the Delaware County Chapter of Cheyney University Alumni to raise funds in support of the school. Cheney, known for recognizing education as the most important civil rights issue, selected Joe Sestak for the award based on his extraordinary work to further Cheyney's mission.
Since taking office in 2007, Joe has visited Cheyney numerous times for events and meetings to talk about ways that the school can best prepare its students for the 21st century workforce. In addition, he has successfully secured funding to preserve historic buildings, enhance the Keystone Honors College and Aquaculture Research and Education Center, install a campus-wide wireless access network and upgrade the University's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Complex.
