"It looks as if state Sen. Jane Orie will face a Democratic opponent in November.
Allegheny County elections officials said today that Democrat Dan DeMarco had three times as many write-in votes as the McCandless Republican, who was attempting to crossfile as a Democrat in the general election.
No Democratic candidate was on the ballot until Ms. Orie was charged with fraud in April by District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr.'s office.
Preliminary numbers will not be released until this afternoon, said county elections division Director Mark Wolosik. He met with the DeMarco and Orie camps this morning.
Butler County officials have determined similarly that Mr. DeMarco, a Ross commissioner, had far more votes than Ms. Orie in that part of the senatorial district."
