March 25, 2011
This afternoon, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party received a call from a staffer with the Department of Community and Economic Development who complained about a recent press release put out by the party. At 2:27 pm, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party fielded a phone call from (717) 214-5373 and the caller identified himself as a staffer with the Department of Community and Economic Development.
(Click here to view the Word Document DCED directory with the number) The caller wanted to know why we had failed to include an article that cleared his boss, C. Alan Walker, of dumping 173 million gallons of pollutants in a recent clip roundup on Tom Corbett's Marcellus Shale Commission - even though the release was about Corbett's donor heavy commission and not the alleged dumping.
"Now we know that C. Alan Walker only threatened to dump 173 million gallons of polluted water into Pennsylvania's lakes and streams as a 'negotiating tactic', he didn't actually do it," said Mark Nicastre, a spokesman with the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. "The economy must be back on track because staffers at the Department of Community and Economic Development apparently have nothing better to do than to call the Pennsylvania Democratic Party to complain about press releases on taxpayer time. But it is reassuring to know that Tom Corbett would appoint someone to his administration who threatened to dump 173 million gallons of pollutants in Pennsylvania streams, but not someone who would actually do it."
