Corbett: Colleges could ease financial woes with Marcellus drilling

"EDINBORO -- Gov. Tom Corbett defended his proposed budget in his first visit to Erie County as the state's chief executive, and said some universities could make up for the loss of state funds by opening their campuses to natural-gas drilling.

Speaking at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania at a conference for the trustees from the 14 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education schools, Corbett said six universities on the arcellus shale formation could open to drilling.

"We're working with state Representative Matt Baker to find a safe way for the state schools to harvest the benefits of these mineral rights," Corbett said, referring to the Tioga County Republican.

"We need to think different. We need to act differently."

1. Thousands of tanker trucks driving on & off campus daily!

Hauling the water and toxic chemicals used in fracking. Students wearing gas masks to walk on campus (toxic fumes/vapors) or maybe hazmat suits. Imagine the "fun" of life on campus, or a football weekend with the nightmarish sounds, sights & smells of fracking drowning out the crowds.

Corbett has a, pardon my French, hard-on to destroy the quality of campus life as well as public education in Pennsylvania. Why does he hate the state? Why is he so destructive? The answer of course is money and it's concommitant, political power.

If any of you haven't seen the award winning documentary Gasland yet, buy or rent it at once, and you will see the desolate future of fracking our beautiful Penn's woods - the sylvan glory for which our state is named. And why? To ship our natural resources to China.

2. Corbett to Colleges: Frack Yourself or Drop Dead

OK, let's assume for the moment that this makes sense for the 6 colleges that are above gas resources, and that they are not putting their students and staff at risk.

What about the 50 to 52% cuts at the other 20 state and state-related universities, or the 10% cut being suffered by community colleges while they face exploding enrollments?

4. That sneaky bastard! I have the feeling that this was his plan

from the beginning to open up more of PA to his drilling buddies. So this is an excellent plan....cut their funding so that they will not survive, and offer them one option to get money for survival.

5. Game Commission warned hunters to expect ripped up forests

Last winter, the Game Commission put out a notice to hunters warning them to expect the woods where they hunt to look different. They will find new roads, drilling rigs, polluted water containment, etc.

PA. has also opened up tens of thousands of acres of state forests to hundreds of new gas wells.

Next, Corbett will be telling the State Park system to open themselves up to gas wells to make up for the severe cuts to their budgets.

6. Corbett has already stated that the State Parks should be open

to drilling, and unfortunately, I have not followed that enough to know just where it is without researching it.

I did hear about the notice to hunters, and I really did expect to hear howls from them about the changes in their hunting grounds. I didn't hear a peep. I can only assume that the hunters either are pro-drilling enough that they are willing to give up their woods (fat chance) or that there is still not enough drilling in their hunting areas to cause much concern---yet. I also heard that they were warned about shooting deer, etc. close to the well pads, since they could cause an explosion. This is a sad state of affairs. I really did hoped that the hunting lobby would be all over this, which would help us keep this drilling in check. So much for hope---my dad always told me to shit in one hand and wish in the other and see which one filled up first.

Corbett will advocate drilling on K-12 public school campuses---gas rigs on top of the kids' playgrounds and soccer fields.

8. Next: Senior Citizens Who Want Medicare Must Open Their Properties to Marcellus Drillers.

It'll be no more "American Gothic" around Pennsylvania--it will be "American Toxic". It's not all that far-fetched with the things Corbett-The Ass-Clown is proposing.

That's it Tom, blame the victims. State colleges could solve their financial problems by having wells all over the place..."harvest the benefits of these mineral rights", like it would be having some kind of quaint farmer's markets on college campuses.
