ERIE, Pa. -- As many as 240 teachers in the Erie School District may lose their jobs by next year.
The Erie Times-News says seventy-five substitute teachers have already been told their jobs are being eliminated. Another 165 full-time teachers will finish the school year Friday not knowing whether they'll be brought back next year.
That's because the district proposes to eliminate the positions to help cover a projected $26 million deficit for the 2011-2012 school year.
School district Superintendent Jay Badams says formal layoff notices won't be sent until after the district formally passes a final budget on June 29.
