The Columbia accent: anyone else catch themselves saying "Thank yooooooo"? |
|
My brother and I both do this, especially on the phone, though I also frequently catch myself doing it at drive-throughs. Neither of our parents did (Mom from Charleston, Dad from rural Orangeburg County). Is this the Columbia accent, or are we just weird? (Ignore the second half of that question; I already know the answer to that one.
And yooooooo?

1. Mother originally from Columbia |

dad from Sullivan's Island...I really think it is just a take off on an original Southern accent gone array. I rather like it though.

My Charleston relations were more y'all-oriented as I recall, as were my other Lowcountry connections.
Again, welcome to DU!:hi:
