I have seen Senator Edwards probably 4-5 times and Elizabeth once. I am absolutely certain they are sincere. I hope you don't laugh at my next statement, but it is on a 'gut level' that I am comfortable as well as on a rational level. That is important to me. On the other hand, when I first saw George Bush I told my family he was a crook although I couldn't rationalize. Every time I saw him on TV that feeling became stronger. I even said I would want to be in the same room with him. That time and many others I was right. I never go against the 'gut feeling'. This time, with the Edwards, I am completely comfortable with the decision.
I was in NC and John Edwards was my Senator when he was in the Senate. I stayed right on top of what he was doing. I was really tired of politicians taking my vote and never answering to me. That was when I really got to know the kind of person he is. During his time in office I only recall maybe two times that he voted other than I would have liked. Each time I sent him a 'Dear John' letter ;-) and each time he sent me a response telling me why he had voted as he did. I can't expect anyone to vote my way always (well, I can expect it but it won't happen.) but I can expect them to be accountable to me and that is what he always did. He'll make a fine president and Elizabeth with make a beautiful First Lady too.
Have you seen their most recent Christmas photo? It's gorgeous. So is their new house.
