Nothing’s sure in this Senate race
By LEE BANDY
A month ago, most political pundits would have guffawed had you told them that South Carolina’s U.S. Senate contest might be one of the more competitive among the Southern Democratic seats coming open this year.
Today, they’re not laughing.
Democratic nominee Inez Tenenbaum has a good chance of defeating Republican Jim DeMint to claim the seat that retiring U.S. Sen. Fritz Hollings, a Charleston Democrat, has held since 1966.
"It’s very doable for her," says University of South Carolina political science professor Brad Gomez. "As a candidate, she has been very popular in South Carolina."
