Anybody familiar with Lake Thurmond area? Have questions.

I'm living in Pennsylvania, but love exploring the beautiful Southern States. I came across a website for Savannah Lakes Resort on Lake Thurmond. It appears to be really nice place for a vacation, but I can't find any reviews of any kind for the place on the web. I was hoping there might be some DU'ers who were familiar with the area and/or resort, who'd be kind enough to provide any info. I was wondering if the drought had severely affected the lake level? The lodge rooms appear a bit small on the one small photo on the website. Does anybody know if they are? Thanks.

1. I did archaeology for the Savannah Lakes project many years

ago and it is very nice but very rural. If you are looking for Bahama's like night life you are out of luck. If you'd like to get up early and drink a quiet cup of coffee on the porch and look out on silence, you may enjoy it more.

I think it is good for local golf, hunting and fishing.

3. Here are a couple of interesting looking places in the SC low country:

Palm Key rents small cottages and the big thing there seems to be tidal river kayaking. I haven't been, but I want to go.

Much more basic are the Edisto River tree houses. You have to paddle up-river to the rental tree houses.

5. McCormick County is much the most forested and much the least populated

county in SC. Pine trees and hunting, not that there's anything wrong with either. What are you aiming to do? An alternative might be Hickory Knob State Resort Park; mainly golf-oriented, but there's other things, too and I'd imagine you'd be able to find reviews online.
