Obama campaign leases office space next to Greenville GOP headquarters

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and the Greenville GOP are nowhere near arm-in-arm, but they are side-by-side.

Of all the empty storefronts in strip malls in Greenville, Obama's campaign has leased an office next door to the Greenville County Republican Party's headquarters.

Obama's is at 402 N. Pleasantburg Drive and the GOP is at number 404.

"The Obama campaign is trying to rain on our parade by renting the office next door to the Republican Party," said Samuel Harms, the Greenville Republican chairman who promised "the last laugh when South Carolina overwhelmingly votes for McCain/Palin."

believes he has a chance in SC? I lived there for 6 years. I mean no disrespect to Barack but I just can't see that ever happening!

I'm sorry if this comes off stereotypical, I'm aware they have a large african-american population. Most people I've known from South Carolina thru the military where all against Bush. One was a former Marine who was stationed at DC. He met Bill Clinton at the White House(he was one of the ones that just stands there) he recalls Clinton coming up to him "Hello Marine" He was also on the color guards when the MCI Center opened plus deployed to Iraq 2 times going on a third tour.

I just thought Obama had a chance at a toss up.

still fighting the damn civil war! I lived just outside of Greenville, between Greenville & Spartanburg in a town named Greer. I can't speak for anyone in the military, but the people I lived near and the people I worked with and interacted with wouldn't vote for ANY DEM. ever!

4. He's forcing McCain to spend money in SC.

They just want to make it really close. If they lose SC, so what, they were already going to lose.

However, making McCain waste money defending a state he should be ahead by at least 15 points, instead of the current 6, means less money for other states.

My mother used to run the booth at our county fairs for the Dems, and we were generally side by side with the Republicans. And we were all quite friendly.

Are the South Carolina Republicans saying that they can't summon plain old civility?
