Federal regulators will hold public meetings this month to discuss environmental issues related to South Carolina Electric & Gas Co.'s proposal to build two nuclear reactors in Fairfield County.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the meetings will be Jan. 27-28 in Winnsboro and Blair.
Scana Corp.-owned SCE&G and state-owned utility Santee Cooper plan to build the $10 billion additions at the site where they currently operate one nuclear plant. The companies say the plants are needed to meet growing demand for electricity in South Carolina.
