SCDP Statement on Kerry-Edwards Ticket |
|
SOUTH CAROLINA DEMOCRATIC PARTY
South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Joe Erwin today issued the following statement on John Kerry's selection of John Edwards as the Democratic nominee for Vice-President:
"South Carolina congratulates our native son," Erwin said. "The Kerry-Edwards ticket will compete in every region of the country, and boost our candidates to victory in November."
Edwards, born in Oconee County, won the South Carolina Democratic Presidential Primary with 45 percent of the vote. More than 220,000 South Carolinians voted for either Kerry or Edwards in the February 3rd primary.
"John Edwards' refreshing optimism attracted Democrats, Independents, and Republicans to our South Carolina Presidential Primary," Erwin said. "His positive campaign message pulls Americans into the political process at a time when harsh negativity on both sides is driving people out in droves. Edwards has a unique appeal that will energize our party, attract crossover voters, and help South Carolina Democrats up and down the ballot this year," said Erwin.
John Edwards becomes the first South Carolina native to run on a major party ticket since Andrew Jackson and John C. Calhoun in 1828.
