that Maurice is an outright racist. No, I do not patronize his business. I used to before I knew the truth about him.

Not only does he advertise on this web site, he flies the racist flag of hate at each of his locations. Not all South Carolinians are of that ilk.

I have not eaten at his place in years, and wrote about a dozen letters during the controversy several years back. It was reported that he was pedalling racist tracts from his restaurant, saying things like the slaves would get down on their knees and thank jesus that they had been brought from Africa to this nice place (so much for Live Free or Die). As a result, all of the major grocery stores quit carrying his sauce, which was a bigger part of his profit than the restaurants. During the controvery, he even started flying the confederate and state flags above the US flag at every outlet (to make the case for state rights), until several good ole boy veterans threatened to beat the shit out of him for the disrespect to the flag.
He's old, crazy and will soon be in hell.

11. Growing up in SC, I used to eat at the Piggie Park....

Bessingers in Charleston was awesome. Great BBQ. A few years ago, I ordered a case of BBQ sause to be shipped to me in Boston (where I live). I was disgusted with the racist and old confederacy literature that accompanied my order. I called their offices and told them just how ashamed I was of them I was. I informed them that I would never buy their product again and would let every person that ate the BBQ sauce (it IS the best)know how truly hateful and horrible they were as a company. By the way, I went to school with one of the Bessinger grandkids. I don't remember too much about him, tho.

I was driving down to Hilton Head this week and the fucker has a billboard up advertising a restaurant near here somewhere (Charleston maybe?) and the SOB has the Confederate flag on the damned billboard. Racist fucker. I don't care if his place was the last BBQ restaurant in the world, I wouldn't eat there. I don't even like looking at his damned restaurants.

Oddly enough, an african american co-worker eats there with me all the time, his belief is mine, he can say what he wants, if it bugs you, don't eat there, if it doesn't enjoy some damn good bbq. If i do get banned because I eat at a place you don't enjoy, then so be it, we disagree, I have no problem with that, but when the a democratic party site starts kicking off people for different viewpoints on where to eat, then I will know Michael Moore was right today, that we have no shot in the future. As for spelling, syntax, etc... who gives a flying rat? Its a msg. board, thats it, a great one, but still a msg. board, and last I checked, with the exception of the International School of busines at USC and engineering at Clemson (of which UGA doesn't have) UGA dominates USC in all rankings, from incoming SAT to graduate income. And our hated rival, GA Tech drowns out anything clemson offers in engineering. And, while our public high schools are at the bottom, they do beat one state, SC.

then why do you keep demonstrating a lack of literacy skills in your postings? Are not university graduates supposed to be able to demonstrate erudition especially if they are from a "superior" institution? For example, the personal pronoun "I" is always capitalized (you do not seem to know when to do this as you vary between proper and improper usage). Proper names such as: Clemson, the Democratic Party, the International School of Business, etc. are capitalized. Also, "busines" is properly spelled "business". Lastly, "its" is the possessive form, "it's" is the contraction for "it is". Keep up the good show, it is rather entertaining.

In response to your question about literacy skills and the superiority of Georgia over South Carolina. Here is an answer to your asinine question: "Who gives a flying rat?" Well, I do, for it is people like you who give others the ammunition with which they can deride the south (not to mention your tacit support of an openly racist business). In lieu of spouting that UGA "dominates" USC and Clemson "in all rankings", why do you not post some links to substantiate your claim? It would lend credence in support your argument.

Would you like to know why South Carolina has such low SAT scores? It is because we have the vast majority of our students take the test; last year it was seventy-seven percent of all public school students who took the test, and each one is encouraged to do so. In my school district, the average SAT score was 1160, which is very respectable, would you not agree? In South Carolina we have a wide range of quality in our public schools and are trying to solve the problem. Your lack of literacy skills, combined with your sanctimony, clearly demonstrate the repairs which need to be made.

Also, you tacit support of racism by patronizing an openly racist business makes you a traitor to the Democratic Party which is in opposition to such practices. Therefore, I must pose the following question to you: Are you a Democrat or just a "freeping" visitor to our web site? Have you ever visited the Free Republic web site? I think that with the views you post, you might feel more at home with them (www.freerepublic.com).

In conclusion, enjoy your First Amendment rights, as we continue to enjoy and exercise ours. So, do not become angry when people disagree with you here.

Also, if I am such a bad democrat because I go to Maurice's on occassion, then I guess Inez was bad for inviting folks to meet her at Cracker Barrel on the campaign, after all, they don't like homosexuals. Everyone, on this planet, is a bigot to some extent, whether it be towards a race, gender, sexuality, or just a family name where they think they are better. Everyone has prejudices. Like I said from the beginning, if they want to speak about it, so be it, I won't hold it against them. However, mind you, i never once insulted your way of saying that you were going to boycott such a place. It is their right to say it, your right not to go, my right to go. Its not that big of a deal. If you want to eat at a resturant, then that's your business. There is no real need to insult the intelligence the people of South Carolina or the intelligence of graduates of the University of Georgia. I live and go to school in South Carolina, and my sister is getting her Masters at UGA. I can't say my parents are dissappointed in either of us. Whats important is that you are both exercising your rights as Americans, using this forum to debate what you like to do, and in the end, that falls under the 1st Amendment, teaching us how valuable it really is. If you like to eat at a resturant, do it, it should be nobody's business but your own. And, if my fellow Carolinaian wishes to protest it, then by all means, do so (peacefully of course ;) ). Personally, its small little issues like this that really divide the Democratic Party, and to what extreme we want to take our party. Lets just agree that we are all Americans, and what we do is up to us, because that is what our veterans and forefathers fought for.

Now, if you want to debate, do so, its your right, just remember that your choices and your actions are both protected by the same amendment, and just to be grateful for that.

Because I choose to eat somewhere you don't, because I don't take the time to make sure my msg. board grammar is first rate, you must insult me. I thank the person who went on to play a peacemaker, but you missed something, I didn't lash out at SC education first. SC dems have a problem just like GA dems, it just takes a different form. Roy Barnes and other dems lost in GA because of the atlanta complex. If you look at GA, pubs are gonna take the suburbs, dems will take the urban areas, thus it comes down to the rural areas. The rural areas have always been anti-atlanta. They believe, and somewhat rightfully so, that most politicians only care about metro atlanta. The dems slowly started to fall into this hole, and the pubs did a complete reversal on it. Typically, the dems ran someone that could somewhat satisfy everyone on these biases, such as Zell Miller (before his about face) and Joe Frank Harris, and you saw the pubs run guys from metro. Then in the last election, you saw the pubs run middle and southern georgia guys. The pubs success should be short term, as the lt. gov. should win the nomination and go on to win the general. In south carolina, I thought no way demint wins, he said to many stupid things, but then I saw that it was almost like the dems didn't give a shit about winning it, as if we had written it off. I like Inez, but i could see where many would say she wasn't "ready" for the US senate. Happily, even though she lost, it doesn't look like it will affect her here like it would in GA. Usually, you lose an election of that magnitude, you are done for good possibly, looks like Inez will have a good shot at something else. I am not sure she can win a governorship run, but, maybe a US house race, then onto the senate. In SC we needed someone with a better resume for the senate run, 6 years is along time to go without a voice imo.
