Since I don't work there anymore, I want to post on this, since it shows up when you google my name.
Anyways, the story is we all saw the film at a film conference and it was not so thrilling,I thought it was boring. The decision to not show it was b/c we felt it wouldn't make money b/c it was boring. We showed Galapagos the year before, b/c it was a great and interesting film.
Also, the Volcanoes movie reps were going to make my manager sign a contract where we would have to show the film 6 times a day. AT the time we already had 3 other contracts with other films, so there was no way to fit in the 6 showings without going against a previously signed contract.
I believe in evolution and think it should be taught in schools!
Thanks, Laura!

5. Oh dear...I thought the Imax was out of business |
|
Must of been one of those things out of business for a minute and back in business the next. That is certainly a form of censorship Bible belt or not!

6. Please look at the date on that OP |
|
It's from 2005. Yes, our IMAXX closed in September of this year and there are no plans to reopen it.

8. Yes, it was too expensive for those who live here. |
|
The shorts (which most of the offerings were) were 45 minutes or less and averaged $8. Full length movies were considerably more. All movies are expensive these days but if you were a family of 4 making an average wage in this town, it would take you most of a year to save up to go see something like Polar Express or Harry Potter.
Our aquarium's in trouble financially because of its entry price of $14/adult. It can't make enough from tourist revenues. Family memberships aren't so bad but still run in the $70-$100/yr. When you can get a gold pass to all the county parks (I think there's 7 of them) including entry to splash zones (but the individual water park with wave pools and slides and stuff is a separate fee) that will allow entry for up to 15 persons in a vehicle for less than $100/yr, the decision when you have kids isn't hard.

9. I have often wondered WTF is happening in Charleston. |
|
Born & raised in Charleston, have been in Massachusetts since college and I have to say that the prices of homes in Charleston amazes me! My last visit home was in 2005. The city looks great, BTW. I am always looking at prices of homes because I would like to have a winter home there and am shocked as shit at the outrageous prices. And I thought homes were pricey here! Who the heck are these folks plunking down 3 million plus for a home downtown? There can't be that many doctors & lawyers. It can't all be retiring Northerners. Or can it? The aquarium was great. I really thought they did a lovely job.
