Columbia, SC - South Carolina's unemployment rate reached seven-point-one per-cent in November - matching the previous highest for the year recorded in February.
The rate was up from six-point-nine per-cent in October, when the state had the third-highest unemployment rate in the nation behind the hurricane-ravaged states of Mississippi and Louisiana.

Sam McClary with the South Carolina Employment Security Commission says he hopes the jobless rate has "topped out" but that things could get worse before they get better.
McClary says a lot depends on Christmas hiring, but early indications are that seasonal employment will be down from previous years.
