Insurance, prescription drugs discussed

SIOUX FALLS - Candidates Larry Diedrich and Stephanie Herseth offered their views on health care issues during a forum Wednesday as the campaign for U.S. House moves closer to the June 1 special election.
Both Diedrich, a Republican, and Herseth, a Democrat, agree that a growing number of people who are uninsured is a key concern for both South Dakota and the nation.
When asked what solutions they would support to help make insurance more affordable, Herseth said she would like to see an expansion of public programs that already work.
Rather than coming up with new solutions, it makes sense to ''take programs that we already have and that have demonstrated effectiveness . . . and then expand,'' said Herseth.
