Knoxville expat returning for 2 weeks...

Hey there,

I'm a former Knoxvillian. I campaigned for Clinton in 92 and attended UTK and Central High, though not in that order.

I was wondering, are their any gatherings between May 9th and 24th while I'm back?

I live in California and it is a HUGE difference in attitudes. I've seen the South of my youth turned into a travesty as society has coarsened. In East Tennessee especially, the Republican tide has been creepy.

and Central High alumni. I attended Central and Halls and both my brothers graduated from Central. I am in Nashville now, which is more left leaning than Knoxville. My brother is in Tazewell and it is the epitome of tacky right wingers, all eager to help support the upper class while they live in trailers. My son is in San Francisco now. So, don't know of any gatherings, but just wanted to say hi!

from your name so that's why I mentioned it. What years were you at Central and what neighborhood are you from? I grew up on Bluebird Dr. and then my mother married a troll and we moved to Halls (which I thought was Timbuktu since I had to drive so far to circle Shoney's and McDonald's on Broadway). My dad lived off Jacksboro Pike. I don't get back to Knoxville very often (except for funerals).

I grew up in Norwood near Merchant's Drive and Clinton Hwy on Oakhill.

Is your son around my age?

9. Nope. He's 20.

He's a student at Berkeley. We were there in March.

I know Norwood well. I grew up on that Inskip baseball field. I'm a 1974 high school graduate so unless you have older siblings we probably never passed each other in the hall!

You guys should visit the ultra rightwing volunteer message board at www.volquest.com. Most of the sections are for athletic related mesages, but there is one "political forum" that I enjoy posting on. Just go to the site and click on message boards and then select "political forum". It will ask for you to sign up to post, but it is really no hassle and it is free. However, you don't have to sign up to read.
I'm sorry if this sounds like an advertisement, but the few liberals that are there could definitly use some reinforcements.
