Kurita update
This is from her Email list so sorry I don't have a link or anything like that.

Campaign Update
June 22, 2005

Rosalind Kurita's campaign to become Tennessee's next U.S. Senator continues to gain momentum as she travels across the state sharing her message with voters.

Last week in Knoxville, Kurita visited the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association Convention and greeted conference attendees. Kurita met and spoke with attorneys and judges from across the state and listened to their ideas about how to make Tennessee the best it can be.

Over the weekend, Kurita took in the softball game between the Davidson County Young Democrats and Davidson County Young Republicans. Kurita enthusiastically cheered on the Blue Team and took some time to talk with the Young Democratic activists.

The campaign moved east to Wilson County later that day and Kurita spoke to a group at the Robert Pruitte Democratic Celebration. Kurita took a few minutes to speak to the crowd and assured them that on trade issues, she was tired of hearing about the kind of free trade that has meant job losses for Tennesseans. She said that if she were in the U.S. Senate right now, she would oppose CAFTA and said, "It's about time we had fair trade that protects the American worker."

On Monday, the Kingsport Times-News wrote about Kurita:

A shotgun-toting registered nurse wants to succeed a heart transplant
surgeon as one of Tennessee's United States senators.

Kurita … says her health care background is one reason voters will
be attracted to her.

"I am a person who has not had anything handed to her," she said
in a telephone interview. "I am a nurse. I've worked hard. I've worked
the night shift. I've worked swing shift. I know what it means to
punch a time clock."

To hear Rosalind Kurita talk about her campaign, tune in to Teddy Bart's Roundtable on Thursday, June 23rd at 8:00 AM CDT. In the Nashville area, Teddy Bart can be heard on AM 1160.

2. Sorry, not a fan of gun loving candidates
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 11:39 PM by Jackson4Gore
There should be more gun control--not less. Does anyone have her explicit view on gun control? The problem for Democrats is not that they are pro-gun control. It is that they frame and handle the issue wrong.

I can't help it--I just hate to hear candidates brag about being a 'gun toter'. It is just total bullcrap that it is a campaign issue anyway. It is like they are forced to say it or dress up in camo as John Kerry did last fall in order to win these idiot's votes. No one is going to take away the redneck's guns. Democrats should pick their battles carefully--gun control not being one of them. It isn't worth fighting.

3. So it's "bullcrap" to you
They can enjoy their guns just like anybody else can. As long as they're responsible about it and don't do anything illegal. She's a member of a local skeet club where she lives and enjoys it. So, what? My grandfather also liked to do shooting.

But in the State of TN this will help her win over the some of moderate libertarian types. This is exactly the kind of candidate that we need to turn this state Blue, a democratic that doesn't support CAFTA and can relate to the traditional southerner values. We need more old style New Deal Dems to take back the state and the country.

5. The ad really worked in...
her home district, where many Democrats are of
the 'dixiecrat' persuasion (vote Dem local, GOP national).

Question: If we had nationwide manditory gun registration,
who's doors do you think they'd be knocking on first?

9. I live in her district, and I can tell you from my own door-to-door
GOTV experience in the last election that she is absolutely LOVED here! I saw more support and excitement for her than I saw for Kerry.

6. Sorry
But I still would rather have a candidate who is for stricter gun laws and is not a big hunter. Personally, I want a candidate who doesn't even bring up the issue. What we should be talking about is jobs, healthcare, Iraq, ect. I sincerley hope that guns do not become an issue in this election because the only people who will be hurt by having that discussion is the people of Tennessee.

7. I think you should..
meet her, away from the crowds if you can, and talk to her about it.
Ask her about the other issues, too.
Keep in mind that this is how that one reporter sensationalized her,
it's all about one infamous campaign ad aimed at a very, very conservative, mostly rural district that includes a large active and retired military population (Fort Campbell).

8. Remember where you are, in the south
During last year there were rumors of Kerry going to take away your guns (isn't he for gun control too? I think he is) and take away your Bible's. So good luck with those gun laws here in the south. People like their guns.

10. She's a skeet shooter, not a hunter, and a rather small one at
that. She told me that she doesn't shoot animals. I think that she will talk about health care and jobs. She's already addressed the bankruptcy bill as being nothing less than a giveaway to corporations and damaging to ordinary citizens.

11. Bush,s speech 6/28/05
In deed, good afternoon. I am an old friend of yours the 60,s with connections threw out the state ,My grand father, I wrote a summation of Bush,s speech, and I would like to share it with you all. Thank you In Deed,The President did manage to get his point across. No time line, mixed signals,or they would think to wait us out ,and on the other hand we would not be trusted. (Abandonment) Also a thing called mass killing as a result of abandonment. So he summed it up there. Should we be there no, I think not. But we are there so we must do the right thing. To understand terrorism regards to the middle east as a whole,we must understand middle eastern countries. The United Arab republic. I am only going one way with this one. Take a look at the map.the middle east, the united Arab countries. Psychological war fare and terrorism across the middle east and the world. The middle east (no mads) born at point a. and residing at some point b. One thing in common ,one religion same belief. A belief that America is some kind of evil empire. A religion that teaches from the very beginning of understanding ,that it is not of this life that matters, but the next only. Now how many countries are there in the middle east? And how much of that in space does Iraq take up? Compare Rhoad Island to America north America and you may see some type of comparison. So you see it,s a very very big world. Spreading Freedom, democracy ,it,s a very, very, very big world. Have you ever spotted mile markers down the old interstate highway? Would you compare one of those to a rather large imprint ,if you know what I mean? The thing of it is we are at war and we must go along with what ever is that plan. Though at the same time the President did not really have anything positive to say or much at all really. So than let me make this perfectly clear, The president said at a point in his speech, that we must put 911 behind us,we must get on with it, get passed it. We are not a nation of peoples that are hiding under our beds over it. Later on in his speech he goes on to remind us of it repeatedly right to his closing words. So let me just reiterate further to sum up all George Bush said in his speech, 1,2,3,4, (Do a little tap dance, shuffle over to the right, Got ya covered, nine ten no problem, sha do da do Thats It.) Just say no to that. Just say no to George Bush. Those republicans really have a serious problem there. For instance in the state of Washington, the republican big cheese says that they will continue to look for felon voters, which by the by rather up set their rising stars (Rossi) bidd to over turn the governors election ,but at the same time he projected into the next election to side step that in their problem. No question about who won, though the question remaining here now is just how did those republicans get so close??? sliding numbers . Thank you and good evening . your friend in deed Desk Jet of Washington State.
