Van Ready to Debate Dark Horse Candidate

Posted by Roger Abramson (08.01.05, 6:19 PM)

I kind of thought that the race for the Republican nomination in next year's Senate race was among the threesome of Bob Corker, Ed Bryant and Van Hilleary. I knew that there a was a "dark horse" candidate out there, but we haven't heard much from her lately.

Well, it looks like someone's finally calling her out. Yes: Van Hilleary is challenging Jane Fonda to a debate. What's follows is the text of a press release I received today:

Desert Storm Veteran Hilleary Challenges Jane Fonda to Tennessee Debate

In case you have not heard, Jane Fonda is planning a cross-country tour to oppose America's effort to win the War on Terror. There is no doubt that Fonda's efforts will undermine the brave work being done by our soldiers, sailors, and airmen around the world right now. These men and women in uniform are fighting the terrorists where they live -- and we are winning. But any weakness or perceived weakness in American resolve emboldens the terrorists and endangers our military.

There is no doubt that al Jazeera will put Hanoi Jane's Tour all over Middle Eastern TV -- just as the North Vietnamese government used her unseemly trip to Hanoi for its own propaganda over thirty years ago. That's a tragedy and as a veteran of the last Gulf War, I am deeply offended.

If Jane Fonda will not cancel her unpatriotic tour, I would dare her to do one thing: bring her tour to Tennessee so that the al Jazeera cameras can see how Americans really feel.

This week I am sending Ms. Fonda a formal written invitation to a debate, in Murfreesboro or any Tennessee city she chooses, about America's role in protecting freedom for everyone. I'm ready for that debate when you are, Ms. Fonda, and I know my fellow Tennessee veterans will be too.

:eyes: This guy is really getting to me. Is he challenging Bredesen again? Is anybody challenging Bredesen? I haven't heard and the election is next year.

2. Yes! Maybe we should divide out and half of the
Ford folks should vote for Ford in the primaries and the other half vote for Van Hilleary.

Hell, the Republicans did that to us in the 2004 presidential primaries. Might as well get their fundie nut into the race against Ford in 2006.
