So, I'm taking a trip to Knoxville in a couple of days
and I'm looking for a restaurant that represents
East Ten. version of southern food.
I'm in AZ right now, I'm from Pensacola FL and
I've ate alot of varieties of southern food, so I'm
not looking for Cracker Barrel here.
Any hints on decent regional food in general would
be a great help.
Thanks :hi:

1. Sadly...
Knox vegas is overrun with chain restaurants. There was a cool place out near the airport called Pioneer House which really was like eating at someones home, with a great menu, but it closed a few years ago.

One locally owned place I'd recommend is Aubrys out in west knoxville. Great food and good prices. You'll have to wait a while at the dinner hour though. Best time to hit it is in the afternoon.

I'm sure there are more that some other DUers can suggest, I'd love to know of them myself. I'm sure there are some good eats in south Kville, I just don't get out enough.

If you find a place with boiled okra, let me know!

2. The Rankin!
The Rankin! The Rankin!
Especially for breakfast. Biscuits! Gravy! Pan fried potatoes! It is on Central across from the Habitat for Humanity Thrift, just down from the Council for the Blind Thrift.

Pete's Cafe or Coffee Shop on Clinch.

I think the Burning Bush on Broadway might still be around.

Which is a place to visit anyway, since you are coming all the way from Az.

It is called the Mountain Lodge--only open for breakfast and lunch.

Knoxville proper only offers tinsil town chains. In my opinion, anyway. (I am hard to please)
The city-town of Knoxville only has the namebrand chains or up and coming latest thing wannabes. Both versions are in fake plastic.
