Al Gore the Comeback Kid of 2008?
I don't know about you guys, but this man would be my dream candidate.
....
A story in the New York Post suggests that Hillary Clinton is trying to improve her ratings with the left because of "the threat of a 2008 Al Gore presidential bid that could come at her from the left on Iraq."

The story notes that Gore will be "a star at the Democratic National Committee fund-raiser for big donors in Washington next Tuesday."

No doubt about it, the columnist makes some good points:

"He's keeping a very strong public profile. He was the first major Democrat to oppose the Iraq war. He's keeping in touch around the country and doing a lot of speeches. You don't do all that if your goal is to play celebrity golf," says a Democratic fund-raiser.

A top Dem strategist adds: "Americans love comebacks and Gore could come back as a real human being instead of a wooden guy. He could come back as . . somebody who went into the wilderness and found himself."

Iraq is the hot-button issue for the hard left MoveOn/Deaniac Dems who have major clout in presidential primaries — and Gore was loudly anti-war from the start while Clinton voted for the war (as did the now anti-war John Kerry).

1. No more Mr. Nice Guy?
If Gore were to come out kicking, and if Jimmy Carter was right, yeah, I could see it happen. But I feel the same way about Kerry. If either man can prove that they were victims of treason in America and act accordingly, I think most reasonable people would have to agree with their position that they were wronged and deserve to take a rightful place.

5. Kerry was always a compromise for me. he was "get a job" instead of
"create" your life.

He was white bread with your pastrami.
Sanka in lieu of espresso.
He was a song about a song that once was cool.

He wasn't Al Gore.

10. Either one of them would have made great presidents.

I really mean that as a compliment, but compared to George Bush, a baloney sandwich would have made a better president.

16. I would vote
for a baloney sandwich before dubya and I'm a vegetarian.

2. I would give strong consideration to voting for Gore...
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 07:20 PM by mike_c
...if he is unambiguously opposed to the war against Iraq-- assuming we're still there in 2008 :-(. If not, it will depend upon his positions on other progressive issues, especially foreign policy, fair trade, and reforming corporate control of government-- all areas where I'm not pleased by the Clinton administration's performance. I voted for Gore in 2000 against my better judgement-- if shrub had not been the republican candidate I would have given serious consideration to voting Green-- but I won't do that anymore. Hillary Clinton is off my radar altogether-- way too centrist/DLC for my tastes these days.

12. Gore was one of the first to speak out against Iraq in 2003
You can go to CSPAN and in the archive search look for his speech in 2003. Just type in Al Gore and I'm sure you'll find it. And yes Clinton is very centrist for me too. I think by 2008 everybody will be ready for an FDR democrat.

14. I know-- I meant DURING HIS 2008 CAMPAIGN....

If the U.S. is still in Iraq in 2008, that is. I'll be looking for a candidate that utterly rejects Bush's war on terror scam and has the courage to say "If you elect me, I will stop this madness." NOT one who says "I can do it better."

the white house is rightfully his. it's our DUTY to return him to it. we could be a WHOLE nation once again. we could heal.

if he isn't the man i think it would be totally bad news. we have to exorcise the demons.

After all he is about the only one to stand in public and speak against the war. Where are the rest?

13. But you have to remember
that even though Dean did speak out against that, God bless him for that, but he hasn't called for a direct pullout I don't think. Kucinich has. Has Gore? I'm not sure.

6. The year that 18 year olds
were given the vote was the year I turned 18. The first person that I voted for was Al jr in the 4th Dist for congress. I have always voted for Al and have no regrets.

9. My prayers would be answered if Al Gore runs in 2008!!!!!! And
I know a lot of people that have never campaigned for a candidate before, but said they would IF Al Gore runs in 2008

Gore is our man in 2008. He has all of the leadership qualities we need to get our country back on the right track (he's even intelligent and that more than I can say about the dumb ass in the whitehouse now).

17. He's intelligent
and he has humility, a quality that is sorely lacking in our leaders. I'm not sure Gore had it before 2000, but he has it now.

He's an environmentalist; the planet needs him. And I still need closure from 2000, I mean I need revenge dammit.

11. It would be nice
I'd love Al Gore to run again. Even though I was a major Senator Kerry supporter I think our country could do very well with Al Gore.

18. Gawd, I hope so - I miss him so much.
he's just a wonderful leader. He didn't fly down to NO to look like an afraid little boy like some presidents we know of - he rolled up his sleeves, got dirty, and got things done. He actually touched down here in Chattanooga with a plane full of evacuees, and my reaction was to save my local paper with the pic plastered all over the front.

My grandfather actually used to do a lot of business with Al Gore, Sr. I remember being a little girl and going to their farm in Carthage and meeting both Sr. and Jr. At the time, all I could do was to inform Jr. that "my granny thought he was handsome"! LOL......
