ROGERSVILLE—Democrats have an excellent chance to win the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Bill Frist, according to State Senator Rosalind Kurita.

She said the Democrat party needs to reclaim its role as the party that represents the middle class and the best way to do that is to send “real people who have had to live real lives” to Washington as elected representatives.
The state senator said the district she represents includes military personnel and families assigned to Fort Campbell and she said she believes the war in Iraq is an important issue.
“We can’t justify expending American lives for oil,” Kurita said.

The state senator also said she is opposed to trade agreements, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement approved by congress several years ago and the proposed Central American Free Trade Agreement, which she said may benefit the profit margins of corporations and may help other nations but will not benefit the average American worker. “We have to take care of our own,” Kurita said.
