U. S. Democratic Senate Candidate Harold Ford, Jr., will be at Ryan's Restaurant, Cosby Highway, Newport, on Saturday morning, July 8 from 7:30 to 9 am. A large crowd in attendance will encourage Rep. Ford to return often to Upper East Tennessee.

1. Harold Ford has death in the Family - Actor David Keith subs for Harold

A crowd of about 100 packed the Ryan's restaurant in Newport,TN to see Harold Ford Jr. Unfortunately a death in the family prevented Congressman and future Senator Harold Ford Jr. from attending.

There was certainly an aura of disappointment in the room when that fact was made known.

Actor David Keith (played Sid Worley in the movie Officer and a Gentleman opposite Richard Gere) spoke on Harold's behalf.

Mr. Keith did a great job of turning disappointment into an excitement.

One one of Mr. Keith's pet issues stopping internet child predators, Mr. Keith requested a meeting with the entire Tennessee congressional delegation to discuss this issue. Of course our two Senators we no shows.

Of the 11 members of our delegation only two show up and one of those was of course Harold Ford Jr.

After his speech I spoke with Mr. Keith and told him, he should consider running in 2008 for the seat now being occupied by Lamar Alexander.

All in all a good day here in East TN.
