Lt. Governor Wilder (D) Blames Blacks, Women for job losses of White Men.

The following is an article from the Elizabethton Star in Northeast Tennessee. Apparently, 87 year old Lt. Governor John Wilder (D!) chose a local leadership forum to comment on affirmative action, the ACLU, environmentalism and women. He also reportedly stated that the country was in dire, dire shape due to judicial activism.

Comments about affirmative action made by Tennessee Lt. Governor John S. Wilder to members of the Carter County Leadership Tomorrow class at a meeting in Nashville last month has angered at least one county commissioner and confused several others.

Carter County Commissioner Robert Davis said he was taken aback by Wilder's comments made regarding black Americans, women and the role of affirmative action during a meeting of the Leadership Tomorrow Class on March 9. Davis said that, during his remarks to the class, Wilder said men like himself are losing good-paying jobs because of blacks, women, and affirmative action. Wilder reportedly made the comment while pointing at Davis.

"We were never talking about anything like that," said Davis. "It just came out. I really didn't know how to respond."
In a letter sent to Wilder's office on March 17, class leadership coordinator Kathy Pierce wrote that several class members requested clarification of Wilder's statements about environmental issues and the ACLU and the negative impact of "favoring women and blacks." .

9. Yes, they're elected by the Legislature

John Wilder is causing great damage to the Democratic Party in Tennessee. He's not the only geriatric geezer, either.

I don't know what it is here (I've been here 4 years now) but no politician seems to ever step down or retire. In my county we've got county commissioners who've served for 30+ years and intend to run again. And needless to say, they're definitely of the old, old guard.

My supposition is that they don't dare leave office because then their crimes will be uncovered. They have to stay in office to keep the lid on.

I lived in Tennessee for 5 years and worked in the legislature for 2 on the House side. Every responsible Democrat thought he was a plain nut, but the conservative-Republican axis just keeps putting him back in. I remember a story my friend Todd Burnett once told me about when Wilder showed up at Gov. McWherter's second inauguration and Wilder says "What are all these people doing here today?" He was totally lost and clueless.
