The Black Commentator: Why we can't trust Harold Ford
Tennessee Republican luminaries grumbled that they couldn’t get enough tickets to Memphis’s Cannon Center for the Performing Arts, last Friday’s stop on George Bush’s Social Security privatization tour. Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, a GOP U.S. Senate hopeful whose district includes parts of suburban Memphis, failed to appear at her president’s show, claiming she missed her flight out of Washington. However, it is widely assumed Blackburn didn’t want to be hectored by Bush to get off the fence on private Social Security accounts.

Rep. Harold Ford, Jr., who may face Blackburn in the race for Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist’s seat in 2006, had no problem with tickets – the White House personally invited the 34-year-old lawmaker and gave him 100 of the prized pieces of paper. From the stage, Bush warmly welcomed Ford, seated in the third row of the auditorium.

Why the star treatment for a Democrat with his eyes on the U.S. Senate? It’s simple: Bush and the anti-Social Security network consider Harold Ford to be a friend.

1. I don't trust Black Commentator and the conclusions and impications they present. After all, they called most of the 2004 primary candidates "barbarians."
2. I can name any number of Democrats who are on friendly terms with Bush.

But, of course, some people are on a Dem witch hunt and it doesn't surprise me that Black Commentator is after Ford.

8. I agree. They heavilly slammed Gore and the CBC for supporting Clinton
during the Monica scandal. Ford has turned socially conservative with his views from gay marriage to others. I would support him though.

3. It's necessary to find a better candidate than Ford.
Too many people that I know, who would be considered the base, are very angry with him. Pissing off the people who would be phone banking, stuffing envelopes, etc. is not a good strategy for winning. I don't think he would have much of a chance.

5. I know people who will be voting for a Green Part y senatorial...
...candidate if Ford is the senate candidate for the Dems. They see him as Repub. Lite, and they don't think he would stand a chance anyways, so they'll vote they're convictions.

7. I have not heard of one either. I've emailed the local Green rep. in...
...my area to see who the candidate is, and what other local candidates and positions will they be campaigning for. I'll let you know when I hear back.

10. Rosalind Kurita
I went to a health care hearing at the State House recently and was impressed with her. She is very bright and articulate and seems more liberal than Ford. I don't know a lot about her, but I think she is from Clarksville, and she is a registered nurse, among other things. I came away with the gut feeling that I would like to support her candidacy, but I don't think she has much name recognition and I REALLY want a Democrat in that Senate seat.

9. Guess Again
Republicans in the state are pulling a noose around Ford's political career.

There's already an investigation of John Ford (uncle) in the state legislature, and now this:

http://tennessean.com/local/archives/05/03/67492869.shtml?Element_ID=67492869

A court-appointed receiver is questioning a $70,000 loan that Harold Ford Sr. received two years after he left Congress from his brother's federally funded child-care agency.

Children's Palace Learning Academies was a nonprofit day-care company founded in 1994 by Shelby County Commissioner James Ford, who oversaw it until his death in 2001. Harold Ford Sr. received a $70,000 check from the child-care agency in 1998.

I don't know if HF Jr is our friend or not. I only know if he runs, there's going to be a huge corruption blitz.
