I have an almost-new personal laptop that I've come to dislike--intensely dislike. Not that Windows Seven is a bad system, but the computer's mouse is a law unto itself. If I fail to keep my eye on it for even a couple of seconds, the tracker shifts blocks of text, resizes windows, and can easily take and delete whole blocks of text.
I know through bitter personal experience. I've gotten so fed up that I'm replacing it.
Please DON'T tell me to give it to charity or a deserving progressive organization or progressive individual. This is NOT a machine I'd give to friends, relatives, or outfits that genuinely seek to do good in the world.
I am wondering if there is some um 'deserving' right-wing organization that would deserve such a tool, and what are the ethics of donating such a crooked hammer to them?
If I 'donate' it, I plan to see to it that there is no post-purchase mal-ware on it. I intend to be a good boy and see to it that the laptop is swept clean of viruses and naughty links and pictures in advance.

1. You can do with it what you want |
|
But asking this board what 'deserving' right-wing organization should get it is probably not going to get you many, if any response. Most of us really don't care to give them anything but grief. Even a badly behaved computer like yours.
There are no limits for contributions in Texas even in-kind donations, so there are no financial tax consequences of the transaction. You certainly can't deduct it as a donation unless you give it to a non-profit group - one that has a 503(c) type of designation.
On the question of "ethics" it's only on your conscience.

Thanks, Sonia. I do appreciate the response.
I can't help but think that the Right-wing Rocketeers (Rockets are reaction engines) and economic royalists might deserve something more concrete than our unpleasant wishes for their political, social, and economic agendas. I was hoping that this model of computer might be a useful tool or appliance like a corkscrew hammer, a five-point screwdriver, a six point electric plug, a three and a half-legged chair, or give-away pens with filled with pre-dried ink.

3. Okay, so you give it to some rightwingers... |
|
...it acts up like it does for you, what do they do? I doubt they'll suffer; they'll just sell it to some poor sucker and profit by whatever money they get for it. As I also doubt THEY'D feel ethically bound to reveal its shortcomings, they'd probably try to get top dollar for it.
Bottom line: a contribution to rightwingers is a contribution to rightwingers.

8. You might give them the "clap" |
|
Not that I'm suggesting you would do that. I'm just saying that there are some things you would give the GOP.
I might give them "aids" for example; the disease not any kind of "aid" help.
I might give them "jail time" - if I could. Put them all behind bars.
I might give them hearts and consciences - if the transplants would work and make them better people. We all know the rejection rate for incompatible donor/recipients is extremely high, though!
