We kept our power, but lost a large tree limb. A palm tree we planted in 2002 is looking poorly, I hope it survives.

Other than that we feel pretty lucky.

1. A big hackberry tree over our house keeps losing branches

Yesterday, we'd hear a rumble like thunder every now and then, as another branch fell off the hackberry tree onto the house.

It's an old drought-starved tree that can't handle the weight of the snow.

About 11:00 p.m. last night, we had "arcing" in the neighborhood and lost power for awhile. Sometime in the early morning, the power came back on.

2. We're doing fine.

The power lines in our neighborhood are underground and our trees are too small to be much of a threat. I am, however, trying to figure out how late I can go in to work but not look like a total wuss.

3. We lost power for awhile last night, but not too long.

Somebody ran into a power line down the block and the freaking transformer on top of the power line had a huge green/blue flame on it!

I keep going out and strategically knocking snow off certain trees that are located near the power lines that feed my house, hehe.

4. I knocked the snow off our phone line

so we don't lose the internet :-) the power line was just stoutly repaired by Oncor a few months ago so I'm not worried about that. I just got back in from knocking snow off tree branches to give them a little relief. Neighbor across the street had his canvas carport come down on his SUV. Another neighbor down the street has a large limb on top of his pickkup.

Will be getting out the chainsaw in a little while.

It's good the temperature is rising, it could have been much worse.

5. Perfectly fine.

Haven't lost heat or power and I just got back from checking the car, which was parked under a tree. No branches fell on it.

Looks like we're a-OK here.

6. Everything okay in East Arlington

It's so pretty outside, until I had to stand there clearing off the top of my car in a good 6-8 inches of snow. And the power stayed on all night too. :)

7. Lost power a few times yesterday, but otherwise okay

Around midnight, during the latest blackout, I was changing the 9-volt battery in my alarm clock so that it would still wake me up in the morning. Right in the middle of opening the clock, the power came back on. Kismet, I tell ya.

Record snow, tens of thousands lose power in Texas

DALLAS — A record snowfall of more than 12 inches knocked out power to tens of thousands of customers, closed businesses and schools, and grounded flights out of Dallas, but by Friday the snowstorm turned out to be relatively harmless.

There were no major injuries during the two-day storm and roads were clear by Friday. Classes were canceled for more than 1 million children, giving them a four-day weekend thanks to Presidents Day on Monday. Throw in the weekend festivities surrounding NBA's All-Star game and more snow than a lot of folks had ever seen before, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area had a winter holiday feel to it.

Meteorologist Jessica Schultz said the area was fortunate that the ground temperature was so warm when the snow fell, preventing icy conditions that could have made for bigger problems.

Oncor Electric Delivery was still working to restore electricity to about 200,000 homes and businesses Friday evening. The biggest issue was power lines that had been toppled by snow-covered tree branches.

The National Weather Service said a record 12.5 inches of snow fell within 24 hours in Dallas. About 11 inches were recorded in Fort Worth, and more than 14 inches fell in areas north of Fort Worth, Schultz said.

The previous single-day record for Dallas was 12.1 inches in 1962. Texas also came close to breaking other records. The storm made this the second snowiest season at 15.7 inches. The 1977-78 season holds the record with 17.6 inches.

It really was bad. Glad you are all safe and have power.

9. Euless here -- lost 2 ugly shrubs in the front of the house...

and a large branch from the neighbors live oak crashed into the back yard...sadly missing the sun room I want torn down and replaced!

Our power stayed on...it used to go out every time it rained..after about 3 years they fixed it and we've had few failures since then.

10. Just got back from our Friday night drinking

outing in Lakewood (Dallas) and talked to some people who live in the area that are still without power. Whole Foods on Abrams was out for a long time, but by about 6 p.m. the lights were back on. Garland Road at Lakeland at the Arboretum was closed southbound because of fallen trees. We had to wend our way through Forest Hills which had numerous trees fallen on the road.

The trees with leaves still on them fared the worst. Liveoaks for example collected the snow and came down. Our fruitless mulberry which is so incredible in the spring with it's white blossoms cracked and split in a couple of places. Magnolias came down in pieces.

People are making snowmen all over. Hah! Wait until tomorrow when it's 50 degrees. I'm melting...!

It's been a very bizarre end of the week. I really hope the people without power get it back soon. Electricity is the glue of civilization.
