Selected highlights of some of the proposed budget cuts from the first draft of the state House budget that could have a significant impact on North Texas.

Health and human services

Medicaid: Patients on Medicaid could have a harder time finding doctors who will accept them because of a 10 percent reduction in Medicaid provider rates. That's on top of the 1 percent reduction implemented last year.

Independent living: Almost 12,000 Texans could lose services that help them live independently, including attendant care, home health services, home delivered meals and relocation services.

1. Wow
Am I just fuzzy headed from a longer than expected nap, or is the Texas Enterprise Fund NOT getting any cuts?

I can't believe we're supposed to be broke and Republicans talk of lower taxes to help families, and they decide to cut the sales tax holiday parents use to gear up for school. What the hell?

How much money are we needing to run the state of Texas and how much money do we have to work with? What are the Texas Democrats proposing for the budget?

2. Corporate welfare
I don't see the cuts either. Frankly I would wipe out this whole program entirely. It's noting but a slush fund for Perry anyway. All those companies give him campaign donation "kick-backs" after they get a public corporate welfare grant from Perry.

Texas Enterprise Fund: Balances not spent in the past year bumps the budget for the Texas Enterprise Fund – which is geared to provide financial incentives for businesses to locate and grow in Texas – from $69 million to $151.3 million.

I don't care if most of the money is a roll over from last time. If the money has not been spent - it should go back into the general fund for use elsewhere.

:grr:
