Example of the Impact of Education Cuts

This is a document recently released by a school district near my home that is outlining the actions they will be taking in the face of the new budget. I think it's fairly representative example of what the average Texas school district will be facing in the midst of this funding crisis -- thought it might be of interest to some folks here.

A plethora of teachers and staff that will be out of work with no real place to go considering nearly ALL districts are cutting back to the bare minimum and there won't be openings. Not to mention the significant reduction in education quality (increasing to a 1:30 teacher-student ratio to name but one of the unavoidable measures they're being forced to take).

1. Rick Perry and the repukes are hell bent on killing

2. Yes and the operative word is "public"

They do not believe that every citizen of Texas should get a free public education. That costs money and the rich would rather not educate the masses. The masses only need enough education to run a cash register and other low end service jobs.

Anyone who can afford a private education is welcome to it. That's their belief system. :puke:

5. Article 6 of the Texas Constitution requires that Texas provide

a public education for her citizens. The Supreme Court has said that education is "first and foremost. a state responsibility."

I include that in my Texas Government exams.

Uygur asked the Congressman if students who can't afford tuition should be able to get government loans. "No one has a right to anyone's wealth, I don't have a right to come to you and say my poor kid needs 500 dollars for an education," Paul replied, "an education is not a right, medical care is not a right."

The potential 2012 presidential candidate said Uygur was asking the wrong question about student loans: "Kids today as soon as they work, we tax them. If they're a waitress or waiter, we tax their tips. We encourage them to work, then they don't have enough money. Prices go up on the tuition and then we give them grants and then they get out of the college and they owe $200,000. It makes no sense whatsoever. I don't think how anybody can justify it."

He's talking about college on this but by principal I believe that he would extend that to states as well. I mean if the state can't afford to pay for public education - why should it provide it? Right?

6. Not sure what to tell my kid

It's like musical chairs right now. I don't even know what school he will be going to because of this crap. If i could get a job (my wife still has a State Job...for now), then we might be able to send him to a private school. I still don't understand the cause of this enormous shortfall, I know my property taxes have gone up the maximum amount allowed every year.
