Man Drags Huge Propane Tank Behind Bumper Down East Texas Highway
From The Houston Press yesterday:

Man Drags Huge Propane Tank Behind Bumper Down East Texas Highway

By John Nova Lomax, Tue., May 31 2011 at 3:01 PM

There's an old East Texas joke that goes something like this: A few years back, Chevy started installing black boxes in the cabs of their pickup trucks so they could learn something about how fatal crashes occurred.

In 49 American states, the last thing they heard from the drivers was "Oh shit." In Texas, it was "Hey Skeeter, hold my beer and watch this!"

We are not saying the unnamed East Texas man in this story was drunk or even drinking at the time he was pulled over on Highway 80 between Gladewater and Big Sandy, but that's about the only thing that would explain how he decided to do what he was doing...or maybe it was an attempt at a remake of that French cinema classic The Wages of Fear, as directed by Hank Hill.

KLTV story and video

Rarely does a news story leave me literally speechless, but I mean, really?! I can't even begin to imagine what was going through this guy's head to even imagine doing such a thing, much less carry it out! Even drunk, I'd think a person would retain some kind of sense about propane...

:wow:

1. "Only in East Texas"
Did you notice the tags on the post at the Houston Press? Filed under "only in East Texas".
Really - :wtf: was this guy thinking?

2. Yeah, I saw that tag
because they had a previous story about a group of East Texas folks shooting up a tree very late at night, saying something derogatory to the officer that found them, and then got arrested by the police in their county (the first officer was in a different county across a river.)

I should point these stories out to Manifestor_of_Light, seeing as how she lives in East Texas and probably sees this kind of behavior firsthand and often.

3. You gotta feel for the sane people in East Texas, right?
I mean it's sort of the same treatment we Texans get here on DU. Not everybody in East Texas is crazy. But because the bozos that do come out - come out big, it all gets labeled crazy.

It does make me feel sorry for them. Just saying.

4. The one time I visited MOL last May,
I was utterly floored by the supreme beauty of the land there. I love the Hill Country, but this was a different kind of beauty. It made me wonder if the residents appreciated it. The "sane" ones probably do, but I doubt if the rest of them ever notice. And that's a shame, too.

5. Having had to go to E. TX many times with Donna, I can believe it.
