Even in suburban areas, fire can be a real danger.
I have a friend who was on high alert yesterday, as a fire raged across the freeway from her.

water your yards where possible, and keep grass cut short -- pray for rain

high winds, drought, and 105 degrees don't mix.

be safe out there.

1. It's so bad this year
that our county commissioners couldn't be bought off by the fireworks people like they have been in the past.

Even at Boy Scout Camp, they can't build fires, so all the cooking has to be done indoors. :(

3. In my immidiate area
Edited on Sun Jun-19-11 02:29 PM by MrsBrady
we've only had 3 or 4 rain storms since the water we got with the week long ice storm in February.
And of course no nice gentle rains...we absolutely must have hail, high winds and tornado warnings. :sarcasm:

That's just been our luck.

And we've also had lots of wind since March, on it's own, without storms. It's dry as a bone.

Not good.

Pray / Preacher man Perry?

Our foot / acre water deficit is about to top Perry's Big Business budget deficit!

He has a plan....A prayer meeting in Houston soon. Y'all just wait.

Don't worry about the 33 Million dollars that Perry stole from the Rural VFD to put in the TX RPBH.

This is all Obama /democrat/ unions guberments fault. We need to succeed

8. I'm telling you... they are in a world of hurt!
I feel for the country folks who are trying to get by. I'm a nurse who lives in a city apartment, drinking city water. I can only imagine true drought.

9. We had a little over 1" rain for the month of August.
I've been able to keep my front yard, but at a cost. I only water now around my edge of my house to keep it stable. As you ride through the forests here, you'd think it's autumn. There are trees dying all over the area. It's been that way for two months. Luckily, we've only had small fires break out and the volunteer fire departments have been able to put them out. I hope the storm in the Gulf gives us some relief. The forest and animals could use it.
