Hurricane Irene: Tips from the Last U.S. City to Get Hit (Includes Hurricane Bingo Game!)

Hurricane Irene, if some computer models are to be believed, is headed as a major storm into the New York/New England area.

They're not real used to hurricanes up there, but here in Houston we deal with tropical-storm fever all the time.

Here are some tips and guides.

First, as TV coverage intensifies, be sure to play our Hurricane Bingo game. Fill in the squares as TV folks interview people buying plywood about how they're buying plywood and other wonderful staples of looming-hurricane coverage.

I'm posting this primarily for the link to the Hurricane BINGO! pdf. It's funny, yet so-o true!

1. Richard Connelly is my favorite writer at the Press
I get that paper pretty much solely for his column and the movie reviews.

2. Do you remember the days of "Public News"
when he did the column "Sports Heretic"? I'm not much of a sports fan, but I always enjoyed his column for his perspective and acerbic wit :D

4. Television news in this country is just so predictable!
There was even this kind of person back when Mt. St. Helens was stirring back to life before the explosion. It's like our news goes out of its way to find all the stereotypical characters in any disaster, before and after the fact.

Makes me wonder if some producer mailed around a "master script" for how the news must be covered in any disaster or disaster-like event...

6. I missed that one!
I like the one where they're buying all that booze and so little water. Maybe they were thinking of using the water for mixing their drinks? :P

Post that to one of the Irene threads as a "survival tip" }(
