KINGSVILLE — Former U.S. Rep. Solomon Ortiz is considering a comeback should hotly-contested redistricting maps shift the 27th Congressional District, or newly created 34th District, toward the Rio Grande Valley.
"I might ...," he said Thursday night. "I've not put too much thinking into it but I'm getting a lot of calls not only from Nueces County but from Cameron and Willacy County."
Ortiz, who lost the seat he held for 14 consecutive terms to Republican challenger and current U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold during the 2010 mid-term elections, said he is enjoying time away from Washington but is concerned South Texas is not being served.
"The needs of the people in this community are not being met," he said in an interview during a dinner in his honor hosted by the Kleberg County Democratic Party at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
