Protest Bush in Salt Lake City on August 22nd |
|
A meeting will take place to plan a protest during Bush's SLC visit on Monday, August 22nd: Meeting: Wednesday, August 17, 7pm, at the Shundahai Office, 333 West, #4Pierpont Place 8pm puppet making for the Sept 24 Bring the Troops Home Action Info: 801-502-8556 info@utahpeace.org
Bush visit August 22nd: From Aaron Davis, Veterans for Peace, Utah Chapter: Bush will address the vfw convention on monday august 22. I have been contacted on organizing and putting out publicity etc. Hereis my take on this: The visit is supposed to help bolster his sagging approval ratings and he wants a patriotic flag waving crowd to do it. Cindy sheehan's vigil protest had been taxing on the Bushites. They really don't know all the details of King George's visit. He can make flag-waving scouts wait for three hours and then cancel the visit. due to security concerns, you know that patriot act thing, it will be difficult to predict when he will arrive if on the 22 at all. Those who want to make plans, go ahead. The downside to this is that once you make plans and have the permit, you may be stuck in Pioneer Park. I am into a newer old tactic called guerilla tactics. I will meet whoever wants to make a day of it at 0800 at wendys 400 s. and 300 w and we will move out carrying signs and get as close to the salt palace as possible in the morning. once the perimeter begins to enlarge, it will be 2-4 hours before his majestie's arrival. I believe however that he will come in off the freeway on 600 s and turn up 300 w to the Salt Palace. Pioneer Park may be an ideal location for a mass show protest. I want to be free to move close to the Salt Palace and have a moving picket line. The problem with that is when the officials say move we have to move to another location. I think where ever we are the press will cover it. For those wanting to gather at noon for a quickie protest pioneer park will be as good as it gets. However we do this, change the consciousness here in Utah about the war in Iraq. Wage peace one step at a time.
