Sorry. I don't come to DU very much anymore. Every once in awhile, I take a peek, but I don't haunt it like I used to. I know there was at least one other DUer who lives somewhere up near Swanton, but can't remember her moniker. You would think that there'd be at least 3 dozen, wouldn't you?

I live in VT and have for four years. But...that doesn't mean I'll ever be a "Vermonter." I will never be considered a Vermonter. Oh well. I LOVE it anyway. And I am a 4th generation native California girl. I just got transplanted by marriage. Yep, married a skier who built a home here 30 years ago (and he's not considered a Vermonter, either).
Live in Mendon. Am a college professor at Castleton State. Do NOT miss the traffic in CA.
Cheers!

I just signed up...
I'm a Vermonter, back more than 7 generations actually, since I have a smidge of Abnaki blood (and a drop or two of Iroquois). Raised by Roosevelt Democrats, strong believer in social justice. I'm so proud of our Congressional delegation! We have to be sure that Jeezum Jim Jeffords is reelected in '06, as he faces some seriously vindictive Goppers mad at him for leaving the Republican party. They'll pull out all the dirty tricks to bring him down and we have to send them packing like we did Jack McMuffin.

18. Nobody will dump Jeffords . . . |
|
Nobody will dump Jeffords . . . nobody. After all, Jeffords goes waaaaaaaaaaay the hell back. His family were old-time progressive Lincoln Republicans as were many in Vermont at that time.
As Jeffords so adroitly stated when he became an "independent" . . . it wasn't that he left the party, it was that the party had left him and all the moderate-to-progressives long ago! So no matter what dirty tricks Karl Rove and his boys or any other rightwingers try to play, Jeffords will be returned to D.C. in '06.
I voted for Jeffords when I lived in Vermont. And I would again if I lived there in '06.

I looked up Vemont, and found that it seems to be one of the most beautiful and calm states in the Union, where living is human-scale in everyway.
Do you know that August highs in Vermont only gets up to the eighties? I'm surpised that more people haven't gone up there in summer to escape the heat of the big cities.
Vermont has been mostly Republican until very recently. The first Democratic governor was elected in 1962, and got three terms. Then in the 1980's Vermont elected its first woman Governor (a Democrat) and then after Snelling-Howard Dean.

16. My mom is from Winooski |
|
My mother grew up in Winooski and we used to visit that side of the family every summer - in fact, most of my relatives still live there.
Last summer I had the chance to take my wife and kids to visit all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins, and they loved it!
I have many fond memories of Winooski, Burlington, Lake Champlain, and Rutland (where a great aunt and uncle lived) and I hope to visit again some day soon.

Those of us in the North Country are probably cowering under comforters or quilts. It's just been so cold!:-(
