HA! Jerry Kilgore *IS* using a voice coach

This comes from oh let's say a REALLY high-up source ;-)

Some rich contributor in Richmond has hired a voice coach for Jerry Kilgore and they have been working with him for the last TWO YEARS.

-I knew about the following prior to today-
Until the Campaign Finance bill passed they were planning on not having his voice on any of his commercials and as little as possible on TV. Basically they were going to try to sell Kilgore to Va. on looks and negative campaigning alone. Now every commercial has to have that stupid "I am _____ and I approved this message" somewhere on the ad.

If you have never heard Kilgore speak he has a syrupy sweet :* Virginia accent. I knew he did but the first time I heard him I was a bit shocked by it. Kilgore handlers are scared that for Repubs and "regular Joe"s the first time they hear Kilgore's voice there is going to be lots of elbowing and laughing.........nothing against those in the SW of the state but if you aren't used to it it...well he sounds "gay" whatever that means.

This high-up source ;-) told me that not only isn't it working very well but in juxtaposition to the normal deep baratone voice of the professional voice over guy it actually sounds worse.

BTW- they are going to do everything they can to avoid debates for this and other reasons.

i must be a real southerner cuz his voice didn't even phase me...some southern gents, even if they're rabid heteros, just have a "fruity" or lilting(?) southern drawl. you usually find it in the more "refined s'uthe'n gintelmens"...

that's funny he's using a voice coach, cuz it ain't gonna help him one damn bit!

4. I was suprised at his voice too

the first time I heard him speak. I actually went to heckle him but lost my nerve hehe. His voice is passable for "genteel southerner" but it is noticeably feminine. His southern accent isnt the kind you typically hear in VA, maybe on the NC border but not in the western part of the state and is nothing like the eastern VA accent. I can sure see why they want to hide his voice, and when I heard him I thought he would probably go no higher than AG because of it.

I remember the rethug whisper campaign about Mary Sue Terry a few years ago (something about her using tongue in groove siding on her house) that started a few days before the election. Homophobia is alive and well in the old dominion and Kilgore is going to have a real problem, especialy if there are any debates planned.

8. I just heard Kilgore's commercial

and his voice is VERY different from when I saw him in person a few years ago.

9. The only Kilgore ad I have seen is the "Liberal" "Liberal" "liberal"

with footage of John Kerry on it. Not an actual Kilgore ad it is paid for by Virginia's for reponsible leadership PAC or something like that.
