1. In ten years in the army...
...I never went to Fort Monroe and, more significantly, I never met anyone who had been posted there. Maybe that is why it is on the base closing list. By the way, what goes on at Fort Monroe?

2. It looks like prime real estate is more valued than it's
mission. It really is a beautiful piece of land, and a historic civil war site too. I only visited once, for a retirement party at the O'club, and it was fabulous! My husband explained that it's an Army educational facility now, and can be easily be realigned elsewhere.

I haven't been there in 30 years. Have they kept it up?

I understand it was taken over for military housing by Ft. Monroe during WWII.

I hate to see Ft Monroe go the way of Ocean View amusement park and get turned over to a developer. Ft. Monroe, another bedroom community for Norfolk.
