Poll question: Virginian DUers: what should Gov. Warner do? |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-30-05 02:46 PM by NoodleBoy
Just want to throw this in here for you to pick on.
Which of these should your Gov do?
Intentionally leaving only two choices.
Edited to add: please DON'T participate if you're not a Virginia resident.

7. I believe that is what is going to happen; however, Allen is going |
|
to run for President. The Republicans state that with his clean record and good looks (huh?), that he may be a good candidate. As far as his nose up *'s butt, it's been permanently planted there since Bush was elected.
Do you notice the shit-eating grin Allen has on his face all of the time? He NEVER disagrees with Bush. NEVER, EVER. He wants to be President Allen bad. Talk about a nightmare.

9. You're right, he does have that MAD Magazine look! |
|
It'll be very interesting if he gets into presidential politics. You know he always tries to put on that good old Southern boy act and talk about how proud he is to be a Virginian. He was born in California.
At some time somebody will have to come clean and fess up that this is Mrs. Allen No. 2 - and whatever happened to the first one? I'd be willing to bet you that most people in VA (let alone anywhere else) have no idea that this is his second wife. They also might have to talk about the fact that he was having an affair in Charlottesville with the current one while he was still married to the previous one.
Wonder how that fits into the big ole "family values" line? Hmmm?

12. I didn't know this was his second marriage. |
|
Does he have kids with both?
He graduated from High School in California. He tried to start a race war between his all-white high school and a predominately black school they played in football. He also displayed Confederate flags on his car when he lived in California. The only way he was elected was because Chuck Robb and Doug Wilder were at odds and the Black Democrats stayed home. Allen needs to be exposed for the racist he is. He should never hold public office with his views.
The poster above had it right when he/she mentioned where he keeps his nose.

there were no kids by Mrs. Allen #1. I just wonder where she is and when they'll bring her up to the surface.
I went over to Tangier Island on Saturday (day trip with a guest from PA) - the damn place is plastered with Allen stickers. Yikes!

15. I haven't been to Tangier Island. Want to some day |
|
I think it is a shame that the Allen people have destroyed the natural beauty of the place by plastering it with his propaganda.
I guess that is their natural reaction to nature -- they want to litter it or bull doze it.

16. By all means visit Tangier! |
|
It is a real jewel. If you haven't eaten crabcakes on Tangier, you haven't eaten crabcakes. Best restaurant = The Channel Marker. The lady there (one of the Crocketts) is extremely proud of her cooking, and she will come to your table and make sure everything is up to snuff. I had a crabcake sandwich (mega-yummm!) and a slice of her homemade banana-chocolate chip cake which was worth every single calorie I blew!!

2. Wait and run for senate when John Warner retires... |
|
I really don;t think...as popular as he is...that he can beat Allen in a straight up race. In Virginia a popular Republican will generally beat a popular Democrat

3. That appears to be the CW. |
|
And with Allen hiring Thune's campaign manager, '06 will be ugly no matter what. It would be disgraceful to let him run unopposed but I don't think there is any other strong Dem to do it.
Therefore, George Allen's seat is safe, both he and Warner run for President in '08, and I guess we'll just have to see what happens.
Still, I'd rather Warner gamble on the '06 Senate Race while he still has a lot of leverage in the Commonwealth. Wishful thinking on my part.

He is such an embarrassment to me as my representative. I hope Warner runs against him. Too many poor republicans get into office because they run unopposed. How are we to get our message out if we continue to allow this?

I think he is an embarrassment too...he is not very intelligent, and has not had an original thought in his life as far as I can tell. He was able to parlay the popularity of his daddy to get into politics, rode the wave of Clintons great economy while he was governor, and now as Senator all he has to do is ape the RW talking points to stay popular!

14. He must get the endorsement of Doug Wilder if he runs for Senate. |
|
I have read here on DU that the only way Allen won was because Chuck Robb and Wilder were at odds with one another. Doug Wilder's following stayed home. That seems odd because it was also Gore v. Bush. Does that mean that VA would have gone blue in that election if Wilder's following had gone to the polls?
2006 is not a presidential. Mark Warner needs Doug Wilder's support to get the electorate out to vote. There will be some accidental votes for Mark Warner as the uninformed may vote for the man they think married Elizabeth Taylor.
I want Allen out of there! He is an embarrassment to me. I don't want people to think our state is as bigoted as he is. If Mark Warner is a clean as I believe him to be, a mud slinging race could be the downfall of Allen.

17. endorsements mean a lot |
|
oliver north lost because he didn't bring out the moderate republican vote when john warner didn't endorse him, robb lost because of wilder.
there are no other dems with enough name recognition and popularity as mark. if i remember correctly, he was close to john warner in popularity, which is quite a feat.

I'm new to the DU and this forum but I have a few questions that I was hoping my fellow Virginians could answer. First, what is going on in the 67th district with Chris Craddock? What do you all feel his chances are for winning delegate? I have a friend who is a moderate republican (she has logical tendencies such as pro-choice and pro-gay marriage) and anti-Craddock, so what are some points about Craddock that I could make to her, that aren't too left (I don't want to scare her away! Every vote counts!) and would help her see the light of day that this guy is not good for VA? And lastly who are some good potential candidates that can challenge him in two years? Thanks for any help you guys can offer me.

The GOP smear machine is already in full effect. Warner needs to help his party before he starts thinking of himself.
Definitely Senate 06. I can't stand Allen.
