I just heard on the news that Oceana Naval Base |
|
is closing in Virginia Beach.
Man, this is bad news for Bush in VA if that happens.

1. I've already posted earlier today that he's taking away the Air |
|
National Guard from Delaware - great, a coastal state that sits in between New York and DC and the commander in chief of the National Guard has no FUCKING PLANES!

3. Looks like navy personnel are being trained for Iraq ground fighting. |
|
No need for naval bases anymore. We're going after places with lots of sand, so we won't need any boats either. And then once they get the oil going into US corporate pockets, they can bring back the boats and navy. We won't need for for a couple of decades.

As far as the middle east goes ... the oil companies have plenty of ship.

7. A nugget of wisdom from George Allen |
|
Putting Oceana on the list is "illogical, shortsighted and wasteful," Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) said in a statement. "In Virginia Beach, every time a jet flies over -- people say, 'That is the sound of freedom.'"
grrrrooannnn..... :eyes:

8. Just proves to me..... |

Our state's a'hole repug Senators Warner and Allen don't pay attention to our area unless it makes the news. Can you say PHOTO OP and sound bite? LOL ! Oceana should have never made the BRAC list in the first place, if our reps were that concerned about the billion+ it brought to our state:shrug:
Of course, most of us who live in this area, think it's a really crappy time to be threatening to pull the rug out from under a master jet base. While realignment may better serve our government, no one's thinking about the 10,000+/citizens/military personnel/businesses this may affect? Think the Domino Effect....? I don't think South Hampton Roads would survive, then again, I'm not so sure who's hip the BRAC is attached too? Is this a nucking futz political move?

10. The city has done everything it can to drive them out. |

The rate of building - and that includes Lynnhaven Mall - has been insane. As a friend of mine that flew out of Oceana said, "I'm not a fatalist, but something's going to land in that mall."
