Virginia Districts....Check-in Here
I'll start by responding to my own thread and set the example, but first:

We have the Governor's race to be decided this November and numerous Va. Congressional District candidates announcing now for the 2006 mid-terms, including a possible Warner v. Allen Senate smackdown.

Why donate to the DLC, DNC, DCCC, if we can directly support our own state's candidates? My donating to the Party bubble burst when Kerry ended up with a gazillion dollar surplus after last fall, leaving Virginia Dems high and dry, if you remember?

Wouldn't it be nice if we can just ask the public DU forums for help, rather than use middleman donator sites, to donate directly to our candidates? Thoughts?

I'll be working for the Democrat ,Earnie Porta, running in my District for House of Delegates.

Official website: http://www.earnieporta.com/welcome.htm

And from the local newspaper:

<snip>
Porta, a resident of the Town of Occoquan, said if elected in November, he would concentrate on sprawl, education, health care and transportation.

Porta chided the last session of General Assembly for concentrating on the less lofty goals of license plate slogans, bake sale rules, road names and "the subject that recently brought international fame to Virginia, a bill to fine people if their underwear is showing."

"Now these things are comical," the 41-year-old Porta said, "but they would be funnier if they were not bracketed by more divisive and mean-spirited legislation that so often seems less aimed at solving problems than at stigmatizing, if not demonizing, some of our very own relatives, friends, neighbors and fellow citizens."

6. 7th District also.
Cantor is such slime. I can't believe the Dems don't run someone.

9. Just Wrote to the District Chair
asking her if the Dems would put up someone. No reply yet.

Do you know anything about Brad Blanton. He is a Green candidate running against Cantor. Would like some insight on him. I've met and and liked him. Just can't tell if he is "too" far out there.

10. I think it was him that ran last time around.
He seemed fine to me, and anything is better than Cantor.

11. He Did Run Last Time
with almost no organization and got over 20% of the votes. This time he has a campaign manager and more funds. Maybe I'll have a big get-together in Richmond for him next summer as we get closer.

2. 2nd District: Ashe (D) v. Drake (R)
Just announced recently David Ashe will run against Thelma "lips firmly planted on Delay's ass" Drake (my snark not his) in 2006. At this time, I'm not asking you to donate to his campaign, your support is more important to him now, please drop him a line at:

http://www.davidasheforcongress.com/

AND, IMHO, let's keep our dollars in Virginia!

3. So many groups . . .
I will occasionally give to an umbrella Democratic organization but I always feel better about giving directly to my candidate's campaign.

4. Exactly Swimboy....
..and a hearty welcome to DU AND the Virginia Forum :hi:

For instance, I just got caught up in the Ohio special election fever and donated 10 bucks to Hackett, though I can't VOTE for him ! He really inspired me on Chris Matthews show last night, that is, answering all those stooooopid Tweety questions :puke: Hackett really raised the bar for MSM jigginess!

So I donated to one of the DU thread links asking for support, only to find out, it was a third party "brownie pointed" site, if I'm lucky, the candidate will see at least a buck of my donation ?

I'd like to keep DU Virginian dollars in Virginia through '06.

We can do this!

7. 3rd District- Bobby Scott
One of the Reps who voted against CAFTA. It's kind of a unusual feeling, being proud of having a representative who actually has a pair.

8. 4th District here....
I usually only donate to state and local dems, but I gave donations to Wes Clark and John Kerry last year. The VADem party needs to find someone to run against "Slimeball" Randy, because he is defeatable (is that a word?).
